Q Aaargh! Why can't I hear anything on your site?

If your computer has a suitable sound card & speakers or a headphone socket, you should be able to listen to our online showreels just by clicking on either the MP3 or REAL AUDIO links. If you haven't already got the latest Real Player software installed on your computer, you can download a free copy quite easily from the Real Networks website. Once installed, you should then be able to hear our showreels by clicking on the MP3 or REAL AUDIO links around our site. MORE

If your computer doesn't have a suitable sound card & speakers or headphone socket, or if your firewall doesn't allow you to download media content, we'll be very happy to send you a CD copy of our online showreels on request. MORE

Q I've never booked a voice before, how does it work?

When you're ready to arrange a recording session, the first thing you'll need to do is contact us to check on the availability of the voice you've chosen - if possible, please try to give us at least a couple of days notice. We'll find out whether that voice is able to record your script at the time of your choosing and we'll also need to discuss the fee for the job you have in mind.

Once the fee and the provisional studio appointment have been agreed, we'll send you an email to confirm the details of your booking. Then a few days after the recording has taken place, we'll send you an invoice which you can settle either by cheque or BACS/bank transfer. In some instances we might insist on either a deposit or full payment in advance as a condition of the booking. For more information, please contact us and we'll explain the process and our terms in more detail. MORE

Q How much will it cost?

Fees do vary depending on the particular voice you want to use and also on the type of production you have in mind.  Generally, voice over fees are made up of two separate elements: first, the 'Studio' or 'Session Fee' for the time the voice physically spends at the recording studio - normally charged by the hour; and second, a 'Usage Fee' which represents the rights you might need to transmit, duplicate, publish or otherwise distribute any part of that studio recording. For certain types of recording, only a Studio Fee is payable and we'll usually be able to advise you whether your job is one of these when you first make contact with us. In many cases, we can also offer special discounts or more flexible rates, depending on the precise nature of your production. Just let us know us if you'd like some no-strings guidance. MORE

Q Can you help me select the right voice for my production?

Yes, of course.  We're often asked to help cast voices for our clients and as far as we're concerned, it's all part of the service. There's no obligation, so just get in touch when you're ready, tell us a bit about the production brief and we'll do our best to help you find the best voice for the job. MORE

Q Do you provide studio facilities as well?

No, but we can usually recommend a number of very friendly studios that will be suitable for your particular type of production. Sometimes we can also negotiate preferential studio hire rates as well - to help you get even more from your production spend. Please ask us for more information. MORE

Q What do you mean by ISDN? ISDN Facilities

Many of our voices have their own ISDN studio facilities, offering clients an instant broadcast-quality audio link to any other studio with compatible ISDN equipment, anywhere in the world! This means that if you have access to compatible ISDN facilities at your end, you can save time and also make significant savings on both studio costs and voice fees, simply by emailing or faxing your script to the voice and then recording it "down the line". Still confused? Don't worry, just get in touch and we'll be happy to explain all. MORE

Q People say I've got a great voice, will you represent me?

As a general rule, we're very sorry but we probably won't be able to offer you a place on our team if you have little or no experience of professional voice over work. This isn't because we're not interested in promoting new talent but simply because the professional voice over market has become extremely competitive in recent years and there are already hundreds of more experienced voices seeking representation. Also, we will only ever send one of our voices off to a job if we're completely confident that they have the necessary ability & experience to meet a client's expectations.

If you are a voice over 'newbie', we suggest that you try to build up some experience working with local radio stations and production companies.  You may not make a lot of money to begin with but you could end up with a few professional credits under your belt and a better understanding of how the industry really works. Then, by all means, do get in touch with us and we'll see what we can do. A word of warning though: be very careful before embarking on costly voice over 'training courses' without first checking how much real voice over experience the tutors actually have themselves. You might only come away with some unrealistic expectations, a pile of badly produced CD's and a large hole in your bank balance!

Q I'm a voice with professional experience, will you represent me?

If you're already working as a professional voice we'd be very interested to hear from you. Please be aware though that if your experience to date is solely limited to either acting, public speaking, performing, or presenting on radio or TV, it still may not be enough to get you a place on our team.  From our experience, there's much more to being a successful voice than recognising a microphone and having a lovely larynx!

In any event, please don't email us with any audio or video file attachments. Instead, take a look at our section for voices looking to join our team, where you'll find all the information you'll need to submit your application. MORE

Q Are your books open for new applications at present?

Yes, we're currently accepting postal applications from experienced voices, as outlined above. You don't need to call and check first, just follow the simple instructions in the 'Joining Us' section. MORE

Q I sent you my showreel in the post, why haven't I heard back from you?

Please accept our apologies if we haven't contacted you yet but as you can probably appreciate, as one of the UK's top voice over agencies, we receive a huge number of showreels in the post every week.  Rest assured, we do listen to each one carefully but we only have a limited amount of time each week to work our way through the pile.  That said, we're going as fast as we can and we promise we'll contact you by email as soon as possible to let you know whether or not we might be able to offer you a place on our team.

Q Damn, I've read all this & still haven't found what I need! What do I do now?

Sorry if we haven't been able to answer your question yet or at least give you a few general pointers. Please get in touch with us by phone or email, tell us exactly what you want to know and we'll do our best to fill any gaps. MORE
